Orissa HC Lawyers’ Stir Enters Second Day
Cuttack: The week-long cease-work by the lawyers of the Orissa High Court Bar Association demanding immediate filling up of vacant posts of judges entered the second day on Tuesday.
“The Association has decided to go for a cease-work for two reasons. In the first place, the High Court has acute shortage of judges. Out of a total strength of 27 judges, 20 are permanent judges and seven are ad hoc judges. But now the number has come down to 17. Secondly, due to the shortage of judges, listing of cases has become extremely difficult,” president of the Association Srikant Nayak told media persons here.
He said the Association will have a meeting on Friday followed by a general body meeting at 1.20 PM on February 19 to decide its future course of action.
