Bhubaneswar: The official Instagram account of Odisha’s Higher Education Department was briefly compromised on Monday morning.
The department reported that unauthorised posts, unrelated to its activities, were uploaded during the breach. “Some posts unrelated to the department’s activities were uploaded to the Instagram account. After the incident came to the department’s notice, immediate steps were taken to retrieve the Instagram account,” the department said in a statement.
After promptly retrieving the account, the department announced that it has taken the matter seriously and is planning to file an FIR.
The hacker had reportedly posted obscene videos and betting-related content on the account.
Similarly, the official website of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack has also been hacked, raising concerns among students and faculty members. Attempts to access the site redirected users to a suspicious betting platform called ‘BENTO4D’ instead of the university’s regular interface.
The issue, noticed late last night, affected both desktop and mobile users, displaying a foreign-language betting site, possibly Indonesian but in English, with no access to university information.
