Jeypore: Koraput district administration conducted the vaccination drive against COVID-19 in the controversial regions to encourage the tribal people in the disputed Kotia villages on Monday.
The Odisha government’s target to administer the vaccine to as many as 100 elderly citizens including people with comorbidities has crossed target with vaccinating 114 people.
Also, former Collector Gadadhar Parida turned up at the Kotia health centre to take the jab instead of doing the same at a health centre near his Jeypore residence.
“The movement we had launched for Kotia has turned into a mass movement. Today, I wanted to make a small contribution to this movement. I decided to take the Covid-19 vaccine shot at Kotia health centre so that locals would get encouraged. On my arrival, many elderly tribals also came up and took the opportunity,” Parida was quoted as saying by the local media.
Caste certificates were also distributed to the residents by the administration in several Kotia villages.
On the other hand, old age pension was distributed to elderly people at Ganjeipadar in Kotia by Andhra Pradesh officials. Each beneficiary got Rs 2,250, sources said.
