Bhubaneswar: In a stellar example of breaking the glass ceiling, a homemaker in Ganjam district and mother of a six-year-old girl has been selected to join the Border Security Force (BSF).
Meet Reena Nayak, a resident of Bayali village in Rangeilunda block. Reena achieved the feat after doing a lot of hard work to strike a balance between her family obligations, household chores and preparing for the job.
Reena said she was always inclined towards joining the defence service. “I took care of my child and protected her as a mother. Now, I will devote my life to protect the sovereignty and security of my country at the border,” she told a local TV channel.
Given her determination and sense of duty both as a mother and for the motherland, those who know Reena praise her as being an inspiration for all women.
On her part, Reena credits her family as being her biggest source of inspiration.
It was her father-in-law, Labani Nayak, a retired army personnel, who encouraged Reena to pursue her dream of serving the nation.
Today, Nayak is a proud man. “It is a matter of great joy that my daughter-in-law has succeeded in geeting selected for BSF after lot of hard work. She used to complete all household chores before focusing on her studies. We are feeling very proud for her,” he told the TV channel.
Reena’s husband Kiran Kumar Nayak echoes the jubiliation over her success. “I had a dream to join the army and she has fulfilled my wish. Therefore, I am immensely happy for her,” he said.
