Koraput: The Odisha Crime Branch (CB) has busted a fraudulent matriculation certificate racket in Koraput district with the arrest of a key suspect, Chhanda Charan Sahoo.
According to a CB release, Sahoo was produced before the sub divisional judicial magistrate’s court in Jeypore. He was arrested on Monday on the basis of a complaint lodged by the senior superintendent of post offices, Koraput division, Jeypore, alleging that some candidates had used fake or forged matriculation certificates to secure appointments as Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) in April 2023.
The investigation revealed that Sahoo had forged the matriculation certificate to apply for the GDS post, thereby depriving genuine aspirants of their right to the job. He has been booked under Sections 465/ 467/ 468/ 470/ 471/ 34 Indian Penal Code.
The release further said that earlier 7 other accused were arrested in connection with the case. Involvement of others in the racket is under investigation.
The Crime Branch had busted a similar racket at Balangir and arrested 20 accused persons in that case, it added.
