Bhubaneswar: The procurement of Kharif paddy for the current season is slated to begin in Odisha from November 20.
Officials said the procurement process will start in Bargarh district, one of the state’s major paddy hubs.
The state government on Thursday announced elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth procurement and proper storage of paddy across mandis for the current season.
Modern facilities have been introduced in mandis to ensure proper storage and handling of paddy. Arrangements for modern facilities will help farmers safeguard their produce during procurement, officials said.
The state has decided to establish 100 model mandis within two years. In the first phase, 38 mandis have already been finalised through tendering, and work has started. These mandis will serve as benchmarks for efficiency, transparency, and farmer-friendly operations.
According to Cooperative Minister Pradeep Balsamanta, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening cooperative structures. The procurement drive will ensure fair prices and smooth transactions for cultivators, he said.
The upcoming procurement season is expected to benefit thousands of farmers across Odisha.
