Bhawanipatna: In a new turn to the missing case of lady teacher Mamita Meher of Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, the police have found a body buried in the ground of the school stadium.

The police had sealed the stadium and dug up its ground on suspicion that Mamita was killed and buried there. While digging the ground with JCB machine, a dead body was found. While the body is yet to be identified, it has been sent to a laboratory for DNA testing, police sources said.

District magistrate, senior police officers, scientific team and family members of the teacher were present while the body was exhumed.

After recovery of a gold chain and anklet from the site, Mamita’s family confirmed that she had worn a gold chain and a pair of anklets while leaving the house.

“Her family members have confirmed that gold chain, anklet & bag found from the spot where the body was buried belong to Mamita,” informed DSP Batakrushna Mishra.

Mamita’s uncle further alleged that police had refused to register a missing complaint on October 9. “We then contacted Govind Sahu and he said that Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra is there, don’t worry. Police had asked us to cooperate with the probe and not speak anything about it in public,” he added.

The opposition has been demanding for the minister’s scalp since a video of him praising Sahu, who was detained after Mamita’s family accused him of kidnapping her, at a recent function held at Sunshine English Medium School went viral. It is being alleged that Sahu, who is the president of the managing committee of the school, managed to slip out of the police barrack at Titalgarh in Balangir district due to his political connections.
