Bhubaneswar: Odisha Law Commission’s office was inaugurated at Toshali Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Monday in the presence of a host of dignitaries. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
The inaugural ceremony was also graced by Chairperson of the Law Commission Justice Biswanath Rath. Advocate General of Odisha, Pitambar Acharya, who is also ex officio member, of the commission, was present on the occasion.
The commission aims to bring reforms that streamline and strengthen the legal framework in Odisha. Though efforts were made earlier to setting up a Law Commission, little progress had been made. .
However, the new government successfully formed and operationalised the commission, winning accolades from Justice Biswanath Rath, who thanked Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the Odisha government, and Law Minister Harichandan for their efforts.
Justice Rath expressed optimism about the commission’s active role in serving Odisha’s citizens. He highlighted that the Commission would address necessary legal amendments and introduce new laws that reflect modern needs.
