Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Saturday apprehended a Junior Engineer (JE) of Odisha Life Irrigation Corporation Limited G. Boitai and contractor Srikant Pati while accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000 for sanctioning a borewell.
Sources said a complainant had applied for a borewell in Lift Irrigation Division, Nayagarh and was requesting them to sanction it in the name of his father.
According to Vigilance, the complainant was directed by Boitai to give Rs 9,000 to contractor Pati. The Vigilance team caught them red-handed while accepting the bribe and apprehended them.
The bribe money was seized.
A case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against them and a probe has begun.
