Bhubaneswar: Hindi film ‘Godaan’, which is set for nationwide release on Friday, has been declared tax-free in Odisha.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi made the announcement after attending a special screening of the film at his official residence here the previous day. He praised Godaan for its powerful portrayal of Sanatan traditions, family values, and the revered place of the cow in Indian society. “The film presents family traditions and values in a way that will positively influence society, especially the younger generation,” Majhi told reporters.
The CM urged the youth to watch ‘Godaan’ with their families, emphasising the need to prioritise cultural sentiments in society.
The film follows Surbhi, a desi cow whose influence reshapes a modern scientist’s beliefs, and how her companionship leads to pioneering work in Panchgavya therapeutics, sustainable living practices, and a deeper understanding of the spiritual science of cow reverence.
Speaking about the benefits of traditional practices such as Panchagavya, the Chief Minister further stated that a strong cow protection law will be introduced in Odisha. “The government is committed to strengthening cow protection. If required, we will also hold discussions with the Centre to ensure effective legal and institutional support,” he said.
Majhi further informed that plans are afoot for establishing two dedicated research centres, ‘Go Asundhan Kendra’ for indigenous cow breeds and cow-based products. A detailed project report (DPR) for the centres is expected to be prepared within the next three months, he added.
Mines and Steel Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, the film’s director and sponsor Vinod Kumar Chowdhury, MLAs and other distinguished guests were present at the screening.
