Odisha Man Awarded Death Penalty, Son Gets Life Term For Triple-Murder In Sambalpur
Sambalpur: A man was sentenced to death by a court in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Wednesday in a triple murder case. His son was also found guilty sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime committed at Lapada village under Mahulpali area of Sambalpur district in 2020.
Pronouncing the verdict in the sensational case, the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kuchinda, Rajkishore Lenka awarded death penalty for the main accused, Navin Dehury.
Navin’s son Hemanand was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. The Judge also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Hemanand,
As per the prosecution, Navin had hacked three members of a family to death on October 21, 2020 over land related disputes at Lapada village. The deceased were Giridhari Sahu, his wife Savitri Sahu and mother-in-law Pirobati. Navin’s son Hemanand was found to have assisted him in the crime.
The two had been arrested by Mahulpali police. The court delivered the verdict on the basis of statements of 20 witnesses, scientific information and circumstantial evidence, according to government advocate R K Nayak.
