Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly beaten to death and her body buried inside a septic tank by her husband at a village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
According to information, the gruesome incident took place late on Friday night at Juang Sahi in Indipur under Sadar police limits after the woman refused to give him the money she had received under the Subhadra Yojana for liquor.
Police sources said the woman, identified as Kousalya Pradhan, was brutally assaulted by her husband Girish Pradhan following an argument over the issue. As she died in the attack, Girish reportedly buried the body behind their house in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Family members of the woman said the couple had gone to collect the Subhadra money earlier in the day. Later, the husband allegedly demanded the money to buy alcohol, but she refused. They suspect that she was beaten to death for refusing to part with the money.
When the woman did not appear on Saturday morning, her four children reportedly approached neighbours and told them about the fight between their parents. During a search, neighbours spotted her hand inside the septic pit and informed police.
On being informed, a police team visited the site along with scientific experts and recovered the body. The case was then taken to the executive magistrate and the body was shifted to the government hospital for autopsy, a senior police officer said.
The accused was arrested and the crime scene was also recreated as part of the probe. Further investigation is underway.
