Mohana: A man died after his country-made gun accidentally went off while he was out hunting in a forest under Mohana police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Harishchandra Bhuyan of Sindhiba village.
According to sources, Harischandra had been selling date palm sap at Kunkuni Padasahi village for the last two months. He was found dead under a hill with gunshot injuries in his stomach this morning.
It is suspected that he was killed by bullets fired from his own gun. Harishchandra’s sister told the media that they arrived here in a vehicle after being informed about his death. “I don’t know how he got a gun and it is difficult for me to comprehend if anyone could harm a simple person like him,” she added.
Police have initiated investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading his death. A relative of Harishchandra and a villager have been detained for questioning.
