Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha, which have been sizzling under sweltering heatwave conditions, are likely to get the much-needed relief the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting considerable fall in temperature after 24 hours.

In a bulletin on Saturday, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued an orange warning for hailstorms in five districts of the state — Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Cuttack.

This apart, the MeT Centre also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning for several areas.

With south to south-westerly wind prevailing at lower level over the State, hailstorm, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH is likely to occur at some places over some parts of Odisha during the next 48 hours, it said.

However, the MeT Centre issued yellow warning and said that heatwave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Nayagarh, Balangir, Malkangiri, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Boudh till Sunday.

Warm night condition is also likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balangir, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri.

There will be no large change in maximum temperature (Day Temperature) during the next 24 hours and fall by 2-4°C in subsequent two days. There will be no large change thereafter at many places in the state.

Weather Forecast –

Notably, the state has been encountering scorching heatwave conditions over the past couple of days. State capital Bhubaneswar recorded the highest temperature of the day in the state with 43.5 degree Celsius on Friday and became the hottest place in Asia. The mercury touched 42 degree Celsius at several places in the state on Friday.

Similarly, Sambalpur recorded 40.8 degrees while the coastal town of Chandbali in the Bhadrak district and Hirakud in western Odisha witnessed 40.6 degree Celsius, the IMD added.

On Saturday, the temperature in Keonjhar touched 38.6 degree Celsius by 11.30 am, while in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur, the mercury reached 37.4 Celsius.

Due to the increase in sea breeze, there is less wind in Bhubaneswar today as compared to yesterday. By 11.30 am, the temperature in the capital city stood at 36.2 degree Celsius.
