Bhubaneswar: Odisha Mining Corporation’s (OMC) Daitari Iron Ore Mines and Kodingamali Bauxite Mines, and JSW Steel’s Narayanposhi Iron and Manganese Mine have been awarded the prestigious ‘5 Star Rating’ for 2023-24 by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) under the aegis of Indian government’s Ministry of Mines.
Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy presented the awards at IBM’s annual recognition programme ceremony held at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur on July 7.
OMC’s Daitari and Kodingamali mines, and JSW Steel’s Narayanposhi mine were acknowledged for their systematic mine planning, effective environmental safeguards, progressive mine practices and proactive community engagement initiatives.
These mines in Odisha have adopted international best practices to ensure minimal ecological impact and contributing meaningfully to the development of surrounding communities through various welfare programmes.
The rating is conferred upon mining leases that demonstrate excellence in scientific and systematic mining, community engagement, welfare programmes, progressive mine planning, environmental conservation, socio-economic performance and the adoption of international standards.
Gajraj Singh Rathore, Additional Director and Wholetime Director, designated as Chief Operating Officer, JSW Steel Ltd, accepted the award on behalf of the company from Union minister Reddy, in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.

Also present during the felicitation ceremony were Sauvick Mazumder, Chief Operating Officer, JSW Steel Odisha; Ram Shankar Sharma, Head of Mines Operations and Projects; Tapan Rath, Mine Manager; and Ankita Singh, Mines Planning.
