Phulbani: Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena on Saturday visited Kalinga Ghati along the border of Kandhamala and Ganjam districts following traffic disruption on the route after two landslides triggered by heavy rain.
According to sources, the Minister reached the area bordering the two districts along with the Ganjam Collector and other senior officials. The team inspected the damaged stretches and took stock of the situation on the ground.
It may be noted that the administration has sealed Kalinga Ghati for an indefinite period following the landslides caused by heavy downpour under the influence of the deep depression. Several stretches of the route have been affected, with the damage visible at different points.
Officials said soil slipped down the hillside and damaged guard walls along the road in some places. At other locations, large rocks and boulders fell onto the road, blocking movement. Cracks have also developed on some stretches, leaving parts of the road in a dangerous condition.
The two landslides have raised concerns over the safety of the route, particularly as the area continues to be affected by rain.
During the visit, the Minister and officials examined the affected portions of the hilly road and the damage caused by the landslides. The route will remain sealed as the administration assesses the condition of the road and surrounding stretches.
