Balasore: Union Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi has promised to take care of the studies of Balasore girl Mamuni Khatun after observing her talent in remembering Sanskrit ‘slokas’ (hymns), Bhagvat Geeta and prayers.
The Minister will help her achieve her aim to become a Sanskrit Lecturer. She can study wherever she wants, Sarangi said.
After Sarangi met Mamuni at her home on Friday, a visibly happy Mamuni said she would fulfil her dream by working hard. Mamuni is the third daughter of Samsuddin Shah of Sunarui village in Baliapala.
She first came to limelight in her high school days by singing Radha Madhab Bhajan.
With the guidance of her teachers, she can now sing several Bhajans, Janana, Gayatri Mantra and recite Bhagvat Geeta and Koran.
Though Mamuni had financial problem, she passed Class X in first division. Now she is pursuing her studies as a Plus-II second year student in Subarnarekha College.
When Sarangi came to know about Mamuni, he talked to her over phone and promised to meet her.
Keeping his promise, Sarangi went to Sunarui village on Friday and discussed with her family members about her studies. He assured them of taking care of her studies.
“Samsuddin Shaha is a daily wage labourer. Whatever he earns is not enough to run his family. Despite that, he is taking care of Mamuni’s study. The talent of Mamuni should not go waste. I will help her in her studies and she can stay in a hostel. I will try to fulfil her dream,” said Sarangi.
