‘Odisha Not At Fault, Advise Central Universities To Stick To UGC Timeline’

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has strongly denied any delay in the publication of  UG final year/semester results in the state, leading to students being barred from taking admission in PG courses in some Central Universities (CUs) as stated by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Universities and autonomous colleges are strictly following the academic calendar datelines issued by the UGC in July, official sources said on Monday.

Citing the UGC guidelines, the sources in the Higher Education Department said UG final exams have been conducted in almost all institutions barring a few, which will be completed in a couple of days, on August 30. The results will be published by September 15. In some cases, the result has already been published.

The sources further said that the UGC timeline mandates that PG admission should be completed by September 30. “Therefore, Central Universities should have given time up to end-September for applicant-students to submit their UG marksheet. If this is done, no student of Odisha would be deprived of taking admission in CUs,” the sources said.

“It seems, some CUs have advanced their PG admission dates, thereby creating problems for many students. Therefore, Union Education Ministry should rather advise the CUs to give time to applicant-students up to the end-September for submission of the UG final marksheet,” the sources added.

In a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Union Education Minister had sought his intervention for the immediate issue of the final marksheet or an attested provisional marksheet to undergraduate students for their admissions into PG courses.

“I am distressed to learn that many students have already missed admission deadline for Central University of Mizoram and Bharathiar University, and are under severe stress due to fast-approaching deadlines for other universities such as Mumbai University, Kumaun University etc. In this context, it is also relevant to mention that these students will also be deprived of appearing in any offline university entrance examinations being held outside the state,” he wrote.
