Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has formally notified an increase in the ex gratia for human fatalities arising out of conflict with wild animals, from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
According to the notification, the assistance extends beyond human casualties. Partial house damage due to wild animals now qualifies for Rs 10,000 in compensation, while damage to kitchen, paddy storage unit or cattle/goat shed will be compensated with Rs 3,000. If a house is completely destroyed by wild animals, the affected family will be provided a new house under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana or an equivalent financial assistance.
The government will also provide financial assistance for damage to compound wall in wild animal attack. If a boundary wall is damaged, financial support of Rs 5,000 per metre, up to a maximum limit of Rs 25,000, will be given as a compassionate grant.
Compensation rates for other types of damage by wild animals remain unchanged, it added.
The then BJD-led government had increased the ex-gratia amount from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh in 2023.
