Odisha On Alert As Deep Depression To Intensify In Next 12 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has geared up to tackle the heavy rainfall after a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal moved towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.

In a morning bulletin on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the depression has moved west-northwestwards and lay centred about 280 km south-south-east of Vishakhapatnam, 320 km east-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) and 380 km east-south-east of Narsapur (Andhra Pradesh). It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression in the next 12 hours and move west-north-west and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast around midnight on October 13 between Naraspur and Vishakhapatnam close to Kakinada.

Following the heavy rainfall warning in the north and south coastal districts by the IMD, the state government has asked the collectors of these districts to remain on high alert and restrain the fishermen not to venture into the sea as the surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along and off Odisha coast and the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal till October 13.
