Bhubaneswar: To prevent sale of face masks, hand wash and sanitizers on the black market, a team from Laxmisagar Police checked on medicine stores under its jurisdiction.
The cops asked them to refrain from such activities as these have been declared as essential commodities and warned the defaulters of legal action.
With coronavirus cases spiking in India, the Centre on Saturday decided to bring masks, hand sanitizers and gloves under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, till June 30. This was done to boost supply and prevent hoarding of these items in its fight to check the spread of the deadly virus.
The Centre has also invoked Disaster Management Act to ensure price regulation and availability of surgical and protective masks, hand sanitizer and gloves.
