Cuttack: After pulling off a surprise victory over Indian Open finalist Malvika Bansod to sail into the final, teenage sensation Unnati Hooda continued her winning run on Sunday, defeating Smit Toshniwal in the women’s singles final of Odisha Open 2022 to become the youngest Indian to win a Super 100 tournament.
Fourteen-year-old Unnati, from Rohtak in Haryana, defeated Smit 21-18, 21-11 in straight sets, wrapping up the match in 35 minutes.
In the men’s singles final, unseeded 21-year-old Kiran George defeated Priyanshu Rajawat 21-15, 14-21, 21-18 to clinch the title in a match lasting 58 minutes.
In the mixed doubles final, India’s M R Arjun and Treesa Jolly lost 16-21, 20-22 to Sri Lankan duo Sachin Dias and Thilini Hendadahewa. The match lasted 36 minutes.
In the women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, daughter of former All England Open champion and Indian badminton legend Pullela Gopichand, beat Sanyogita Ghorpade and Shruti Mishra 21-12, 21-10 in the final to claim the title.
In the men’s doubles final, Indian combination of PS Ravikrishna and Udayakumar Shankar Prasad could not build on their first game heroics and went down 18-21, 21-14, 21-16 against Malaysia’s Nur Mohd Azriyn and Khim Wah Lim.
Unnati entered the final after a surprise 24-22, 24-22 victory over Indian Open finalist Malvika Bansod on Saturday.
