Bhubaneswar: The results of 256 Zilla Parishad (ZP) zones out of 315 zones in the Odisha panchayat elections, counting for which took place on Saturday, have been declared so far. BJD has won 230 ZP zones, Congress 12, BJP 10 and others 4.
In the first round, the BJD has won 89 per cent of Zilla Parishad seats against 56 per cent in 2017, which is a gain of 33 per cent.
Mamata Jani, who was the all-party consensus candidate for Zilla Parishad (ZP) zone 1 from Kotia, suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Tikai Gamel, who fought as an independent.
On Sunday, counting began for 307 ZP zones. Till 8 am, the BJD was leading in 281 zones, BJP 15, Congress 14 and others 5.
