Bhubaneswar: Amid rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and Kerala, the Odisha government is reportedly in two minds about giving the go-ahead to physical classroom teaching for students of Class I to VIII.

In all likelihood, there will no physical classes for these students during the current academic session.

“We are following a wait and watch policy. We cannot put the health of children at risk,” School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

The government was earlier contemplating reopening schools for Class I to VIII a week after Saraswati Puja, either on February 22 or 23, with COVID-19 guidelines, and conducting at least 60 days of physical classes before the final exams.

The students of Class IX and XI have been attending physical classes since February 8 and those of Class X and XI since January 8.
