Odisha Police Bust Jharkhand Man’s Murder Case
Karanjia: More than a month after the recovery of a man’s body from an abandoned well near a bridge in Jashipur block in Mayurbhanj district, the Odisha Police on Friday cracked the case with the arrest of two brothers from Jharkhand.
According to police, the decomposed body of a man was found in an abandoned well near Chutiapola bridge on the side of the Jashipur-Raruan Road on December 15.
Though the Raruan Police had begun the investigation, they later halted the investigation for two days as it was not immediately known whether the area from where the body was recovered comes under the jurisdiction of Jharkhand or Odisha.
However, the issue was resolved after the Revenue officials of both states identified that the area comes under the jurisdiction of Odisha.
Later, the Jashipur police begun a fresh investigation and identified the deceased as Jayapal Hembram from Haughutu Sahi of Panduaburu village under Majhigan police limits in Jharkhand. Some documents were also found from the pocket of his trouser. Police also seized a scarf wrapped around the body of the deceased.
After getting the address of the deceased, the police went to Panduaburu village and arrested Sarat Hembram and Bholanath Hembram.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that as the deceased had an illicit relationship with their sister, they killed him and later took the body on a bicycle and threw it in an abandoned well after wrapping his body with a scarf of their sister. Police later took the accused to the spot for a crime scene recreation.
The accused will be forwarded to the court on Friday, cops said.
