Odisha Police Cautions Against Receiving Pakistan Number WhatsApp Call; Know Why
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police on Thursday advised mobile phone users not to receive calls from foreign origin numbers starting with +92 on WhatsApp.
In an advisory through a post on its X handle, the Odisha Police urged advise mobile phone users to remain alert and not to receive calls from individuals claiming to be police officials and demanding money by bringing false allegations against their close relatives.
Sources said the state Police decided to warn smartphone users after reports of fraudulent calls impersonating police officials poured in from different parts of the state.
In recent times, cyber fraudsters have adopted this new technique to dupe common people by identifying themselves as police officials and bringing false allegations against their close relatives.
Therefore, Odisha Police advised people to stay vigilant and asked them not to share any information on receiving such calls, sources said.
Earlier, the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications had issued a cautionary advisory urging mobile users to be wary of receiving calls from foreign numbers, such as those starting with +92, on WhatsApp.
The advisory, released by the Ministry of Communications advised users not to disclose any information if they receive calls from individuals claiming to be government officials threatening to disconnect their mobile numbers due to alleged involvement in illegal activities.
