Bhubaneswar: In a bold measure to protect the tigers from poachers, the Odisha Police and management of Similipal Tiger Reserve have launched a joint initiative.
The collaborative effort aims to drive away poachers and strengthen protection measures within the reserve. As part of this initiative, a flag march and mobile patrols have been launched.
Two platoons of armed reserve force (ARP) and Forest personnel conducted flag march and mobile patrolling inside the tiger reserve on Thursday.
Satyajit Nayak, DIG (Eastern Range), said about 90 Forest staff who had undergone fire-arm training were joined by two platoons of APR from Balasore and Mayurbhanj to participate in the drive against hunters and poachers. The joint squad would patrol the buffer zone and core areas of the tiger reserve, he added.
By working together, the State Police and Similipal Tiger Reserve management aim to create a safer habitat for the tigers of Similipal and preserve the region’s rich biodiversity.
