Bhubaneswar: Intensifying the probe in Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested another alleged middleman in connection with the scandal.
The accused, who was apprehended from Berhampur, has been identified as Epili Sitaram. As per information, he is accused of having played a major role in getting aspiring candidates and facilitating their travel in a bus to Andhra Pradesh as part of the racket.
Sources said the involvement of Sitaram came to light during the interrogation of several aspirants linked to the case. Based on the fresh evidence that emerged during questioning, the CBI issued several notices asking him to appear before the agency for questioning.
Sitaram was reportedly interrogated several times by the investigators and the central agency formally took him into custody on Friday, sources said. He is likely to be produced before the court on Saturday.
Notably, the CBI has already filed a preliminary chargesheet in the SI examination scam case against 16 accused, including the alleged prime accused, Shankar Prusti. Further investigation is underway.
As pre sources, the investigators suspect the involvement of more people in the recruitment scam syndicate. The agency is intensifying its investigation to determine involvement of any other people in the racket and apprehend them. Sitaram’s alleged role in the entire racket is now being closely scrutinised.
