Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police plans to move the court to seek non-bailable warrant (NBW) against playback singer Sourin Bhatt who has been absconding after a woman filed sexual harassment case against him.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said they police were unable to trace the singer even after issuing lookout notice and freezing his bank accounts. The police teams have also visited Sourin’s house twice. But they did not find him.
“Since Bhatt has not come forwards to cooperate in the investigation nor police were able to find him, we plan to move the court to seek NBW against him,” said Mishra.
Sourin had obtained interim protection from the Orissa High Court. Later the high court vacated it and asked him to appear before the Investigating Officer, the DSP said.
“As the singer remained unreachable despite the court’s order, the police issued a lookout circular against him which is still in force. We have also frozen some of his bank accounts. But Sourin is yet to be traced. So we will apply for issuing of NBW against him in the court,” he added.
It may be noted that a case was registered against 42-year-old Sourin, an established playback singer in Bollywood and Odia film industry, on the basis of a complaint lodged by a woman, a resident of Cuttack city who works in a private bank, at Mahila police station on June 12.
The woman accused him of false promises of marriage, cheating, torture and exploitation. She also accused the singer of having taken Rs 10 lakh from her.
