Berhampur: After 24 years on the run, a murder suspect was arrested in Chennai, where he was working at a construction firm, on Monday.
Udaya Pradhan (52), a resident of Keranditola village in Ganjam district, was working there under the alias Ganesh.
According to sources, he and his brothers had allegedly killed one Kaibalya Pradhan on July 6, 2001, over a family dispute. While Musha Pradhan was arrested the same day and later served a life sentence, Udaya and his other brother, Pancham, managed to escape. After multiple failed attempts to capture Udaya, police recently tracked him down to Chennai after he contacted old acquaintances.
The arrest was carried out as part of Operation Garuda, a two-week statewide crackdown on crime launched on August 1.
Udaya had moved to Chennai after a falling-out with Pancham in Bengaluru. Efforts are underway to nab Pancham, police said.
