Odisha: ‘Preserver Of Paddy Seeds’ Kamala Pujari Hospitalised
Jeypore: Padma Shri awardee Kamala Pujari, who has been suffering from old-age ailments, was admitted to Saheed Laxman Naik Hospital in Koraput district on Tuesday after her condition deteriorated.
According to sources, the tribal icon has been suffering from hypertension for quite some time and was under medication. She was not able to eat for the past few days and this deteriorated her health condition.
Her health, however, is stable now. A special medical team has been formed to take care of her treatment, the sources added.
In June last year, Pujari was admitted to the Koraput district headquarters hospital after she developed respiratory problems and was shifted to the Saheed Laxman Naik Hospital after her condition deteriorated.

Often referred to as the “preserver of paddy seeds”, Pujari was awarded Padma Shri in 2019.

She has successfully preserved hundreds of indigenous paddies and has also collected several endangered and rare types of seeds of turmeric, tili, black cumin, and mahakanta.
