Bhubaneswar: In a bid to help primary school students deprived of online classes, the Odisha School & Mass Education Department is set to assign trainee teachers to provide education to such students at their doorsteps amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This will be the internship programme for the students of diploma in elementary education (D.El.Ed) as part of their curriculum.
“The students pursuing their career in elementary education training course will reach out to primary school students, who do not have facility for online education in far-flung areas, and teach them near houses as part of their internship,” School & Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said on Tuesday.
With the reopening of school is still uncertain, the education department will allot 10 students to each teaching student of the course. The Department will shortlist 10,000 teaching students and involve them in doorstep teaching.
“The teaching students will visit 10,000 villages that lack internet connectivity to take classes of the state-run school students near their houses by following COVID-19-appropriate behaviour,” said the minister.
