Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to provide adequate opportunities to job aspirants, the Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to raise the upper age limit for entry into government service from 32 to 42 years.
In order to provide ample opportunity to overage aspirants to participate in different recruitment examinations, the government has decided to enhance the upper age limits from 32 to 42 years, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said after the Cabinet meeting.
The upper age limit for entry into government service is governed under the Odisha Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989. As per the provisions contained under rule 2 of the said rules, the upper age limit for entry into government services is 32 (thirty-two) years.
Numerous representations have been received from the different quarters for enhancement of the upper age limit so as to enable the overage aspirants to participate in the upcoming recruitment process.
The above upper age limit will be relaxed further for candidates of ST, SC, SEBC, Women, Ex-Servicemen and PwDs, the Chief Secretary said.
However, the enhancement in the upper age limit will not be applicable for jobs, where a higher upper age limit has been prescribed by the government.
Similarly, the enhancement in the upper age limit will not be applicable for uniformed services including police, fire services, forest and excise services.
