Bhubaneswar: Odisha saw a record 60,646 (RT-PCR: 7,673, Antigen: 52,843, Truenat: 130) samples being tested for COVID-19 and 3014 new cases in the last 24 hours.
The state has been testing over 50,000 samples every day since August 15.
According to the Health Ministry, Odisha now ranks fourth among states in the country with 905 tests per day per million. Only Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi are testing more than this eastern Indian state.
The Ministry on Sunday tweeted that India had crossed another landmark with highest-ever tests in a single day. “More than 10.5 lakh COVID-19 tests conducted in the last 24 hrs. All states/UTs conducting more than 140 tests/day/million, as advised by WHO,” it added.
Amid the increase in testing, the state has also witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases. It also ranks fourth in the country with a positivity rate of 5.71 per cent.
According to Odisha Health Department website, the positivity rate is 5.83 per cent. This, however, does not have any impact on the positivity rate tally, with Odisha positioned behind Tamil Nadu (8.10), Goa (8.05) and Jharkhand (6.19).
The state has been recording over 20,000 cases daily since August 13 with the highest single-day spike of 3682 on August 27.
The positivity of these states is less than the national average of 8.57 per cent. Details here:
