Bhubaneswar: Odisha received 1.5 lakh doses of Covaxin vaccine as first consignment of the state’s own procurement for vaccination of 18-44 year age group at 9 pm on Friday.
This vaccine will be used in the areas under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) limits for which slots will be opened on COWIN for sessions to be held from May 3.
The state will have a symbolic beginning of the vaccination of 18-44 year age group , when a few beneficiaries will be vaccinated in view of the urban area lockdown.
Earlier in the day, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department, Pradipta Mohapatra said 1.93 crore people in the 18-44 age group will get COVID vaccine
shots for free as promised by the government.“We have placed orders for the vaccines and paid Rs 700 crore to Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited for the purchase,” he added.
