Odisha Schools To Reopen After Raja Festival; No Extension Of Summer Vacation

Bhubaneswar: All government, government-aided, and private schools across Odisha will reopen on June 18 with the state government deciding against extending the vacation period, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond announced on Monday.

The minister attributed the decision

to the arrival of the monsoon and a notable drop in temperatures across the state, which have created more favourable conditions for students to resume classes. “Classes will resume a day after Raja festivities. The government is fully prepared for the upcoming academic session and is working to ensure timely supply and distribution of textbooks to all students. The primary focus is on prioritising students’ academic schedules and learning progress,” he told reporters.

The summer vacation had begun earlier than usual from April 27 due to intense heatwave conditions.

Minister Gond further emphasised that the government is closely monitoring weather conditions statewide. “If the heatwave persists or conditions become unbearable for students after the schools reopen, the government will reassess the situation and take necessary steps with the safety and well-being of the children as our top priority,” the Minister said.
