Bhubaneswar: Students of all state-run universities in Odisha will soon be able to avail wi-fi facilities on the campus free of cost.
Higher Education Special Secretary Ramakanta Nayak has sought budget estimation for the same from registrars of all public varsities. “I am directed to say that the Government of Odisha intends to provide free WiFi facilities for the students on the campus of the Universities for improvement in the academic environment, as most of the study resources/ books are now-a-days available online,” the Higher Education department notification issued on Wednesday said.
“Therefore, you are requested to take steps to furnish a detailed estimate including GST and service charges of executing agency for approval regarding the installation of wifi facilities in the campus of the universities,” it added.
This is aimed at facilitating e-learning on the campuses.
Earlier in May, the then Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari had informed about the decision to provide free wi-fi services in all state-run universities from 2023-24 academic session as promised by the ruling BJD in its 2019 election manifesto. He had added that the students will get 1 GB data and the Electronics and Information Technology Department has been roped in for the same.
