Odisha Seeks GI Tag For Golden Grass Products

Bhubaneswar: The State Cooperative Handicraft Corporation has moved the Geographical Indications Registry seeking GI tag for handicraft made of Odisha golden grass.

IP attorney P Sanjay Gandhi moved the application on behalf of the corporation.

Traditionally, golden grass, which got its name because of its smooth, glossy and golden appearance, was used to make ‘pedis’ (boxes) and ‘dalas’ (baskets). But nowadays, trays, mats, pen stands, bags and jewellery are also made of golden grass.
