Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha were swept by a cold wave on Saturday with the night temperature dipping below 10 degree Celsius at eight places.

According to the Bhubaneswar Met Office, there will be no change in the weather condition for a week and the cold wave will prevail across the state till January 17.

The Met Office’s morning bulletin said Sonepur recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 6.8 degree Celsius while the mercury remained below 10 degree Celsius in Daringibadi (9), Titlagarh (8.6), Phulbani (8.5), Sambalpur (9.5), Keonjhar (9), Jharsuguda (8.6) and Angul (8.6).

Besides, the temperature remained at 12 degree Celsius and below in Balasore (10), Cuttack (11.4), Baripada (10.4), Sundargarh (10), Hirakud (11.9), Talcher (11.3), Bhawanipatna (11.2), Balangir (11), Koraput (12.2) and Malkangiri (10).

The night temperature in Bhubaneswar also fell sharply to 14 degree Celsius on Saturday from 19.5 degree Celsius on Friday.

The bulletin also said that there will be a sharp fall in night temperature by 4-6 degree Celsius in most parts of the state as cold wind has started blowing from the sub-Himalayan West Bengal with the weakening of the trough line stretching from a cyclonic circulation over the central parts of South Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood up to Vidarbha in Maharashtra.
