Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha were left shivering under the spell of an intense cold wave on Sunday with the night temperature falling below 10°C at eight places.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature recorded till 5.30 am on Sunday was lowest in Phulbani at 5.5°C. The mercury also dipped to single digit in Jharsuguda (7.4), Baripada (8.5), Angul (8.6), Koraput (8.6), Balangir (9.4), Bhawanipatna (9.2), Keonjhar (9.5).
Besides, the night temperature remained under 15°C in Talcher (10.6), Hirakud (11.6), Sambalpur (11), Boudh (10.5), Nayagarh (13), Daringbadi (9), Sonepur (11), Malkangiri (13), Titlagarh (11.5), Paradip (14.3), Chandbali (11.9) and Balasore (11.5).
The twin cities of Cuttack (11.6) and Bhubaneswar (13.9) also witnessed a sharp fall in the night temperature by over 2°C.
The IMD said that as there is no significant synoptic system over Odisha with the drifting of the high-pressure area, the cold wave condition in the state will intensify further with a fall in the night temperature by 1-2°C during the next 24 hours in the coastal districts and by 2-3°C in the interior districts during the next three days.
