Odisha Sizzles As Mercury Breaches 40 Degree Celsius In 13 Places
Bhubaneswar: Entire Odisha came under the grip of heatwave as temperature crossed 40 degree Celsius in as many as 13 places of the state on Monday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district was the hottest place in the state by recording maximum (day) temperature of 41.4 degree Celsius.
Baripada was followed by Bhubaneswar, Chandbali and Nuapada with 41.2 degree Celsius, Malkangiri 41.4 and Boudh, Jharsuguda, Titlagarh, Jagatsinghpur and Parlakhemundi with 41 degree.
Similarly, Khurda and Nayagarh recorded 40.5 degree and Kendrapada 40.2 degree Celsius on the day.
The IMD said the day temperature is very likely to rise gradually by 4°C to 6°C at many places in Odisha due to northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation during next 4 to 5 days.
Consequently, maximum temperature is likely to be 40°C or above at many places and above normal by 3 to 5°C in some districts during the period.
The Met office has issued a yellow warning and forecast that hot and humid weather condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Puri, Mayurbhanj and Jajpur.
