Berhampur: Three days after a South Africa returnee of Digapahandi area in Odisha’s Ganjam district tested positive for COVID-19, the Health department on Tuesday confirmed the case.
Informing about the SA returnee, Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra said the genome sample has been sent to Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar to ascertain the strain of the virus.
ILS-Bhubaneswar has been designated by the Centre as one of the genome testing units in the country.
The man is doing well and the family is under home isolation, said Niranjan.
There was one case from Balasore and 4 were from Ganjam. One had come from Maharashtra and another from South Africa wo belongs to Ganjam. One of the positive case is symptomatic and is in hospital.
