Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting steep rise in temperature across Odisha in next few days, the state government on Sunday instructed all districts to take appropriate steps to deal with the weather condition.
The office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued an advisory to all district Collectors in view of the IMD forecast indicating that the mercury may cross 40 degree Celsius.
As per the IMD’s forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to rise gradually by 3 to 5 degree Celsius over the interior districts of Odisha during the next four to five days.
Similarly, the minimum (night) temperature in the state is likely to increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the same period.
The SRC’s office pointed out that districts like Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir have recorded maximum temperature of 37 degree Celsius and above and the temperature is likely to rise further up to 40 degree Celsius and above in some places during next five days.
Though the heat is tolerable for general public, it may cause slight health concern for vulnerable people like infant, elderly and sick ones, it said.
The districts Collectors have been asked to advise people to take appropriate precautionary measures in view of the IMD forecast for rise in temperature.
People have been advised to take maximum precaution while going out between 11 am and 3.30 pm.
The highest temperature recorded in the state in last 24 hours was 38 degrees Celisus in Boudh.
