Balangir: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two persons and seized high quality FICN (fake Indian currency notes) having face value of Rs 50,000 in Rs 500 denomination from them.
The arrested have been identified as Md Shabir and Netra Rout.
The duo was taken into custody following raids at Titilagarh town in Odisha’s Balangir district for allegedly printing and circulating fake currency notes. The FICNs recovered met many security features of a legal currency note, sources said.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the materials used in printing the counterfeit notes and possible links with any international racket.
This comes three years after a similar seizure of high quality counterfeit currency notes with a face value of about Rs 41 lakh in Sonepur district.
