Odisha Student Polls: Elected Leaders Take Oath Amid Tight Security

Bhubaneswar: Newly elected student representatives across took oath at their respective colleges and universities on Friday amid tight security arrangements.

Sources said security arrangements have been enhanced to prevent any untoward incidents following clashes between ABVP and BCJD supporters that rocked some campuses earlier.

Oath-taking ceremonies are being held at 346 colleges and 13 universities across the state. The elected representatives reached their respective institutions in processions before formally assuming their roles.

Notably, student union elections were held in the state on Thursday after remaining suspended since 2018. With the polls resuming this year, students have once again had the opportunity to elect their representatives.

Police have been deployed in considerable numbers at institutions where the elections were held.
At Rama Devi Women’s University, the oath-taking ceremony was scheduled to continue till afternoon. BCJD won the student union elections at the university.

Attention will now turn to the elected representatives and their efforts to address the university’s issues and fulfil students’ demands. The oath-taking ceremony marks the formal beginning of the elected representatives’ tenure.
