Berhampur: As a special tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the students and faculty of ITI at Odisha’s Berhampur city have come up with his statue made of scraps for the first time in the country.
Speaking on the efforts of the students, the principal of the ITI said they want to unveil it on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. Since the Father of the Nation emphasised on cleanliness, the students are working on the concept of waste to wealth and have developed many scrap sculptures, he added.
Motivated by the prime minister’s call to create wealth out of waste, he said tThe students and staff are now moving on the path of skill development with a new slogan “Swachhata Ru Dakhyata” (from cleanliness to skill).
“The 6-ft sculpture of Gandhiji is made from automobile scraps and weighs around 100 kg. Around 1600 fan bearings have been used to construct the sculpture which is first of its kind in the country,” the principal said.
