Bhubaneswar: Air pollution level in Odisha surpassed even the AQI in national capital New Delhi on Thursday.
Air Quality Index (AQI) in multiple cities across Odisha has worsened in the past few days, reaching levels of above 300 and categorised as very poor.
The pollution level in some cities of Odisha was so high by 11 am that it even surpassed Delhi. The of at least three cities of Odisha stood among the five most polluted cities of the country.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) daily bulletin, Balasore is considered the most polluted city in the country on Thursday with an AQI of 336. The industrial town of Talcher was second in this list with AQI of 324.
Baripada in Mayurbhanj district, recording an AQI of 304, has been identified as the 5th most polluted city in the country.
Surprisingly, Delhi’s AQI has been recorded at only 218.
Poor AQI in Odisha underlines the need for immediate measures to curb air pollution, said environmentalists.
