Odisha Tableau With Raghurajpur Artist Village, Sambalpuri Song May Become Part Of Delhi R-Day Parade After 3 Years

Bhubaneswar: After being rejected for three consecutive years, the tableau from Odisha is likely to get an opportunity to roll down the Kartavya Path in New Delhi on Republic Day this year.

As per information, the tableau model designed by noted sculptor Kirti Kishore Maharana and painter Gajendra Sahu was sent to the selection panel.

Presenting the Raghurajpur craft village and messages of women empowerment, the tableau will also have a Sambalpuri song to go along with it.

The model was reported to have been appreciated in the selection meeting brightening the prospects of being accepted for this year’s parade.

Out of all the 20 tableaux sent for approval, the one from Odisha was reported to have been at the third place. However, the final decision on selection is yet to be taken, sources said.

Hopeful of the tableau being included in the R-Day parade, Gajendra Sahu said there was an indication that the Odisha model might get selected for the parade as all the members in the selection panel highly appreciated it.

Stating that the panel also liked the Sambalpuri song, he said the members suggested to place it with some change in the next phase meeting on January 4.

Tableaux are an important part of the Republic Day parade every year as they display the diverse culture and traditions of different states and union territories when the parade passes on the Kartavya Path.

The selection of tableaux is a well-established process that involves an expert committee comprising eminent persons from various disciplines such as art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography, and so on. The panel of experts is directed by the Ministry of Defence.
