Raurkela: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday intercepted Muralidhar Urmal, Tehsildar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Lathikata in Sundaragada district, and recovered ₹5 lakh suspected ill-gotten cash from his possession.
Acting on reliable inputs, a Vigilance team stopped Urmal near Rajabasa Chhak in Lathikata while he was travelling in a hired vehicle from his Lathikata office to his residence in Raurkela. The entire amount of ₹5 lakh along with the vehicle was seized as Urmal failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of the money.
Following the interception, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Urmal as part of a disproportionate assets probe. The searches were continuing at the time of the latest update, with further details expected.
