Bhubaneswar: Many parts of Odisha are likely to experience intense heat coupled with high humidity over the next seven days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
In its midday weather bulletin, the weather agency issued a yellow warning of rising temperatures and high level of humidity for eleven coastal districts of the state for the next 24 hours. Hot and humid conditions are expected over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati during the period.
Many parts of Odisha are likely to experience rise in maximum temperature (day temperature) by 4-6°C during next 4-5 days.
As per the weather forecast, the intensity of heat is likely to increase significantly from April 13, while Bargarh district has been issued a heatwave warning about the possibility of extremely high temperature.
The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar also warned that the prevailing conditions marked by scorching heat, sultry weather, and heatwave situations, are expected to persist till April 17.
The IMD has advised people to remain cautious, especially during the afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorms are likely. Residents in western and northern districts are urged to take necessary precautions against the rising heat and humidity in the coming days.
People are advised to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take extra care of vulnerable sections such as children, elderly persons, and outdoor workers.
